Could satellites collide?

With the recent proliferation of communication satellites, thousands now occupy Low Earth Orbit, and many more are set to be launched in the coming years. This paper explores the possibility of predicting the closest approach distance between two satellites based solely on the Doppler profile of an active beacon.

This research is a prime example of how joint communications and sensing technologies can be leveraged to enhance space situational awareness.
