Jumping Disc – Make Science Fun

Expériences scientifiques à la maison

Jacob and Sam dismantle a microwave oven and take out the heat switch. The heat switch contains a small disc, that ‘clicks’ when heated, and when cooled, flexes back and jumps in the air.
WARNING – Do not dismantle microwaves as they can contain charged capacitors which can cause electrocution.
The disc is actually a bi-metallic strip. The top metal expands more than the bottom one when heated, causing the disc to click (flex).
